Während Windows 10 bei mir alleine immer schon so um die 8 GB RAM gefressen hat, kommt Bazzite mit Firefox, Thunderbird, Steam und Teamspeak mit 5 GB aus.

@rl_dane Dude! It's not just #Windows and #MacOS[1] doing that but a lot of the *nix desktop environments, or rather the toolkits. I noticed a significant difference in usability from GTK2 to current versions.

I also just moved back to #Evolution from #Thunderbird. I just couldn't get used to the UI, even after using it on both Mac and Linux. Evolution, which I have been using for the past *two* decades is showing some weird UI design. The menu bar at the top is now just a little icon hidden in the top right corner. So weird.

[1] The highlight, drag and drop in MacOS is so inconsistent. Sometimes, after highlighting the files you want to move, dragging them just deselects them or highlights other files. And then sometimes they actually can be dragged into another directory. It seems that where you click (icons, text, or whitespace) and the time between clicking to highlight and clicking to drag all matter...somehow.

And it's not limited to Finder. It's other file managers too which tells me it's an OS design issue.

Was ich wirklich erstaunlich bei Windows finde, im Vergleich zu Windows 98 auf der für dieses OS zeitgemäßen Hardware, besteht kaum ein Unterschied, was Wartezeiten im Vergleich zu Win11 auf dafür zeitgemäßer Hardware angeht.
Es ist zäh. Du fragst dich, wohin diese 30% CPU Last überhaupt gehen, Task Manager ist nur bedingt hilfreich.
Die ganze Zeit Disk IO wie blöde, und nicht ersichtlich, warum.
Und auf einmal ploppt ein Logitech PopUp und will dir irgendwas andrehen.

* The #FreeBSD logo is Beastie, because it reminds you to dare, hack, and stop praying.

* The #OpenBSD logo is Puffy, because it’s the only fish that takes security more seriously than being edible.

Tl;dr: I have celebrated one year since having switched from #Windows to #Linux by... switching from Linux to OpenBSD my daily driver OS. Why? OpenBSD's "proactive security by default" stance is the best for me - and it runs on my somewhat legacy hardware. Most of the essential software I used on Linux is also here, so for most purposes OpenBSD is fine for me.
