Part of the issue with AI is how it can be used to rewrite history or get a version of the truth that is not entirely truthful.

I asked 3 LLMs why Microsoft is called the evil empire. This is the last paragraph of their answers:

Claude : "It's worth noting the company has changed substantially under Satya Nadella, who took over in 2014. Microsoft became one of the largest contributors to open source, acquired GitHub, built strong developer goodwill, and largely shed the "evil empire" reputation. The nickname feels dated today — though some would argue the aggression just moved to subtler forms like cloud lock-in and Teams bundling."

OpenAI : "It's worth noting that Microsoft's reputation has changed significantly since the era of leaders like Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. Under Satya Nadella, the company has generally been viewed as more cooperative with open-source software and competitors, though it still faces scrutiny because of its size and influence."

Mistral : "Over time, Microsoft has worked to shed this image, especially under CEO Satya Nadella, by embracing open source, supporting cross-platform development, and promoting corporate responsibility"

So do you agree that Microsoft is now great and Nadella can walk on water?

Yes, Microsoft is great!:4
No, Microsoft is still the Evil Empire:223

My first company, Opera, was built on word of mouth. The same applies to my 2nd company, @Vivaldi. We have never had the means that Big Tech has. In the case of Vivaldi, we have even avoided investors, to not end up like Opera.

We have also made it harder for our selves. We likely could have generated more funds through adding stuff like Crypto, AI or just plain old data collection in the browser, but we choose not to. We are also not an Ad company like most of our larger competitors. Instead we have added a wealth of features and customization.

Now people are starting to understand that just going with Big Tech may be easy to start with, but ends up not being worth it. In fact we now have governments and companies thinking that they need to move away from Big Tech and quickly.

    We welcome you all.

Can someone give me a quick recommendation for an encrypted that is suitable for legal discussion and allows group chats? Voice chats a plus but not strictly necessary. Ideally runs on and with an added bonus.

I know about and if that's good enough just tell me. Otherwise any info is appreciated.

I don't know enough about these things for my paranoia to calm down. And I just realized I don't know what hashtags to use to get the help o need.

I also think it’s interesting to look at the value proposition in comparison to other similar products, namely modern consoles. The is arguably a more capable 8th-gen console, and the appears to be similar to a baseline 9th-gen console. However, none of the consoles have a functional library like the Steam Machine. Obviously is massive, but the Machine being a PC means literally any game ever made is playable on it, either through or through

I liked the UIs of the entire era from 3.0 to 2000, really. I'm mostly using Windows 2000 as an example here because it runs so well in QEMU/KVM and that allows me to easily take screenshots.

In 1995, a Dutch media company offered us a steady job where we could develop Moon Child as a semi-independent game dev division.

As Commodore went bankrupt in 1994, we were required to restart MC development for Windows, enabling us to increase the resolution to 640 x 480 pixels.

The game's scrolling is smooth, but I reduced the frame count for the GIF.

But after reinitiating MC for Windows, we decided to leave out the second part. 🙂 This is the final CD audio track for MC's title sequence.

Sometime around 2017 (IIRC) I got nostalgic for a little "netbook" type computer and decided, for some reason, that an HP Stream 14 would scratch that itch.

These are really low spec machines, even for 2016-2017. It came with Windows 10 and the first Windows Update basically filled the disk and effectively bricked the device. LOL!

I installed Linux on it after that (ofc) but didn't really use it much. So slow....

I was digging around in my service manuals library this evening and stumbled over it in a drawer of files... for some unknown reason it was in the drawer.

I started it up thinking it was still running Arch from back before Covid and might be entertaining to try to get it to update to the present.

Hmm, Alpine 3.21 boots console but sway is installed. Weird, no recollection of doing anything with this machine 12-18 months ago. "I'm not saying it's aliens..."

Ok, Alpine updates to 3.23 without issues. I'm not much of a tiling window manager person so I installed Plasma. Bad idea! With 4GB of ram and an afterthought of a CPU and storage it doesn't run very well at all.

Installed LXQt with labwc and it runs great! Tweaking and themeing to come. (Hi @Tionisla 👋 )

Not sure what I'm going to do with this machine but currently it is pretty usable for simple stuff. Screen and keyboard sucks, pretty close to e-waste. Lesson: ~$200 (retail) laptop is about as good as you would expect a $200 laptop to be. Ha.
